Program Statement
Seven Holy Founders Parish offers a junior golf program. This year there will be two leagues, one for 1st thru 4th grade and one for 5th thru 8th grade youth of SHF. Both leagues are open to boys and girls. Players will be introduced to the sport of golf with the hope that a life long interest will be built. Each player will learn the basic rules of golf, receive instruction on golf etiquette, be instructed on proper stroke and play by local USGA teaching pros, and participate in tournament play at par 3 public courses such as Tower Tee (Affton), Family Fun Center (Kirkwood) and Riverside Golf Course (Fenton).
General Info
District
SHF will participate this year with other parishes from the South County district of the CYC.
Ability
The junior golf program at SHF is open to all levels of ability. Each player will be encouraged to develop their own game at their own pace.
All foursomes for the tournaments may be blended to have players of all ability playing together to help and encourage each other. Remember, each player is playing his or her own ball.
Equipment
Each player will be required to have their own set of clubs and bag. A minimum number of 4 clubs wills be required. Standard sets contain a light weight golf bag, a driver, 2 irons and a putter. Each player will be required to carry their own bag. No sharing bags. Players will not be allowed to borrow clubs from others on the golf course. Players are encouraged to use their own set at the instructional nights to become more familiar and comfortable with their own clubs.
During tournament play, all players shall be required to have their own golf gloves, balls, tees, ball markers, club cleaners and towels.
Golf shoes are optional, tennis shoes will be required. No street or dress shoes.
Golf Shirt
Since golf is a gentleman and lady's game, proper golf attire will be required on the driving range and golf courses. In keeping with this and the great sports tradition at SHF, and to feel proud representing SHF, we will have a golf shirt requirement. Each player will be required to purchase a collared golf shirt. SHF has designed a basic white golf shirt with SHF's logo on the front. The cost of the shirt is included in the fee.
A collared shirt shall be required at the driving range. Denim is not acceptable. Parent Participation In keeping with the SHF parish family participation philosophy, each family will be required to volunteer for each event throughout the season. There will be many responsibilities at each instructional session and each tournament. Golf tournaments require many volunteers from scorekeepers to marshals to starters to check in responsibilities. Adults will be required to walk with each foursome on each course. Without the volunteers, the events will not be possible.
Therefore as a requirement to sign up, each family will be required to acknowledge this participation. Families that do not meet their obligations, harm the program. Players will be removed from the program if the family obligations are not met.
We will assign age group and gender coordinators to be responsible for that particular group at each event. This is only a coordinator, not a coach or a babysitter. They will be expected to get kids ready for practices and tournaments.
As part of the Archdiocese requirement, each parent volunteer will have to have completed the Protecting God's Children program.
Tournament Spectators
Spectators will be allowed to follow players but will be asked to abide by golf etiquette rules. Unruly behavior will result in being asked to leave the golf course. Adults shall be required to have completed the Archdiocese Protecting God's Children program to be allowed to walk with the players.
Etiquette
At the first instructional night, a brief etiquette class will be given to explain the rules and etiquette of golf as well as the rules of the driving range. We will also review some golf course rules, additional golf terms and remind the players of safety and caution.
All players will be required to pay attention. Listen to all rules. No horseplaying will be accepted. Children that disobey and show disregard with the rules will be removed from the program.
